Today’s Tip: Chez Palmyre – Nice, France
If you only eat at one restaurant in Nice, it should be Chez Palmyre. This place is the whole package; the atmosphere is perfect, the food is amazing, the service is great and the price is right.
The tiny hole in the wall is absolutely adorable, and its been tucked away in Nice’s old town for almost a century. Despite their immense popularity, they have kept their formula of good fresh food and surprisingly low prices.
They serve a set three course menu with a starter, main dish and dessert for €14 and their produce comes directly from the local markets. The classic, Niçoise and Mediterranean dishes, like octopus salad, pillowy gnocchi, sausages in lentils and fragrant beef daube, change seasonally and everything is made in house.
They have a small, but high quality wine list with a lot of local wines like those from the Bellet – region, which is within Nice’s city limits.
The only downside with the place is that its not so easy to get a reservation. The little place has amassed a loyal following and the tables full up fast.
You must call in advance or dinner reservations – weeks in advance for the coveted Friday night dinner slot, Getting in for lunch is easier, but calling ahead is still a good idea. – and be forewarned: they are closed on weekends and they don’t have a website.
