Le Tono is the closest thing I have to a neighborhood place in Nice. It’s a couple blocks from my apartment and it has a vey local, friendly feel. This place is not your typical bar though.
They call themselves a wine bar, and they do have a great selection of local and French wines. They also have fantastic appetizers like my all time favorite dish: gorgonzola and fig terrine (basically blue cheese and figs possibly mixed with butter, melted and then formed into a loaf) it is decadent and rich and sweet and salty and amazing.
During the day they have an outstanding lunch menu with huge fresh salads, pastas, meat and fish dishes and daily specials. I am always a little sad after eating lunch here because its so good I wish they did dinner. Their evening menu consists of tapas and wine.
Like everything in France (I am learning) it has odd operating hours. They serve lunch between 12:00 – 2:30 and after that they close from 3:30 – 5:00 and then it’s tapas only until 11:00 (12:30 on fridays) and they are closed weekends.
