Today’s Tip: Portland, Oregon Farmer’s Market
Portland has become a bastion of the farm-to-table phenomenon in the US and it’s many farmer’s markets are nothing short of fabulous.
There are more than ten farmer’s markets scattered throughout in the Portland metropolitan area, all of which connect local farmers to consumers and have an abundance of farm fresh produce, hand made products and a welcoming community feel.
The Portland State University location is a personal favorite with dozens of stalls selling everything from vegan key lime pie, to home made kimchee, to purple carrots, the sweetest beets I’ve ever tasted, and fresh cut flowers. They also often have live music in the center of the market with seating and free warm drinks in the colder months.
The market is located between SW Hall & SW Montgomery, the market is open almost year round from March 17th – Dec 15th on Saturdays from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm.
While most markets shut down around mid December, one brave market opens up to ensure Porltanders can still stock up on produce and goods even in the coldest and wetests months. The winter market at Shemanksi Park is open January 7th – Fab 27th Saturday’s from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm.
