Today’s Tip: Shake Shack
I fucking love this place. There just isn’t any other way to put it. The first one opened in New York’s Madison Square Park 2001 and it became a local phenomenon. Now they have outposts in 5 states and (randomly) two Middle Eastern countries: Dubai and Kuwait.
They do what you’d imagine: burgers, fries, and shakes, but what sets them apart, especially for a vegetarian like me, are the mushroom burgers.
We are not talking about some grey veggie patty with the odd corn kernel here. These are portobello mushrooms filled with two kinds of cheese, breaded and fried to hot, salty, crispy-on-the-outside-gooey-in-the-middle perfection.
I used to make the trip to New York just for the pleasure of the ‘shroom burger, and when they opened one near my office in DC, I had to forcibly stop myself from going everyday for lunch.
I can only speak from experience about the NY and DC restaurants, but I imagine the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree.
